About Effort and Grace

Welcome — I’m glad you’re here.

Effort & Grace™ has been sitting in the back of my mind for a long time. I have made a few blog attempts over the years, but none of them ever quite held the whole thing I was trying to say.

This space is where I share stories, reflections, lessons, and occasional practical helps from real life — faith, family, marriage, motherhood, teaching, service, leadership, grief, growth, planning, cooking, and the ordinary moments where God keeps teaching me.

For a long time, I thought I had to choose which part of my life I was going to write about.

Eventually I realized maybe I do not have to choose.

Maybe the point is not that all the topics are the same.

Maybe the point is that the same thread keeps running through all of them.

Faith.

Effort.

Grace.

Growth.

And learning to love people well.

What Effort & Grace Means to Me

Effort & Grace means more than one thing to me.

First, it reminds me of the effort and grace Heavenly Father puts into my life. I know “effort” may not be exactly the right word for what God does, but I do not know another word that quite captures how intentional He has been with me. He teaches me, redirects me, carries me, corrects me, comforts me, and patiently works with me — often through the most ordinary circumstances.

Second, Effort & Grace is about my effort and His grace. I believe in trying. I believe in showing up. I believe in doing the work. Not because my effort earns God’s love, but because effort is one way I offer my heart back to Him.

But grace is not a side note. Grace is what makes my efforts go farther than they should. Grace fills in the gaps. Grace helps me learn without making me feel beyond hope. Grace lets imperfect offerings still become useful in God’s hands.

And third, Effort & Grace is about the effort and grace I am trying to extend to others. I want to be someone who sees people, encourages people, teaches well, serves well, leads well, and loves well.

I am still learning that grace can be kind and still have standards. It can forgive and still tell the truth. It can be gentle and still be firm.

That is part of what I am trying to learn.

And probably part of what I will be writing about here.

A Note About Faith

My faith is not a separate compartment of my life.

It is how I see the world.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that will naturally shape a lot of what I write. Sometimes I will write directly about scripture, Church lessons, covenants, discipleship, and Jesus Christ.

Other times, faith may show up more quietly — in how I talk about children, teaching, service, leadership, grief, family, or ordinary daily life.

Not every post will be specifically religious. A post about substitute teaching or PTO may not mention faith directly at all. And not every faith-centered post will require you to know or share my exact religious background to understand the point.

But I do believe God is involved in real life.

Not just the polished parts.

The school mornings, the hard conversations, the volunteer meetings, the grocery lists, the grief, the classrooms, the kitchen counters, the messy middle of becoming — all of it.

So that is the lens I write from.

You do not have to share every (or any) part of my faith background to be welcome or enjoy being here.

If you are trying to live with more purpose, more courage, more kindness, more hope, and more grace, I am glad you found your way here.

How to Read This Site

The blog will be posted in order, like a regular blog. But because my life has several different lanes, each post will also be filed into a topic area.

You can explore by topic:

Faith & Becoming — faith, scripture, grief, growth, grace, and finding God in ordinary life.

Home & Family — marriage, motherhood, parenting, home life, and lessons from the people I love most.

Classroom & Learning — substitute teaching, school-day stories, classroom moments, and the lessons kids keep teaching me.

Leadership & Service — PTO, Church service, volunteering, belonging, and leading where you are.

Mastering the Moments — planning, systems, routines, and managing a full life with purpose.

Business & Growth - Small business, goals, courage, customer care, and the lessons learned while building something meaningful in the cracks of a full life

Kitchen Pixies — recipes, hospitality, food projects, and a little kitchen magic.

Or you can just read the blog straight through and experience the conversational whiplash of following my actual brain.

This space is still in progress.

So am I.

Welcome to Effort & Grace.
